Summer Fun

It's hot out there! Stay cool and safe this summer with the helpful info and tips below

Older adults, children and sick or overweight individuals are at greater risk from extreme heat.

  • Humidity increases the feeling of heat.

  • Cover windows with drapes or shades.

  • Use window reflectors specifically designed to reflect heat back outside.

  • If you are unable to afford your cooling costs, and weatherization or energy-related home repairs, contact the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for help.

SAFETY FIRST

  •

    •              Never leave people or pets in a closed car on a warm day.

  • If air conditioning is not available in your home go to a cooling center.

  • Use your oven less to help reduce the temperature in your home.

  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

  • Avoid high-energy activities or work outdoors, during midday heat, if possible.

  • Check on family members, older adults, and neighbors.

  • Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

HEADLINE NEWS

You spoke up Queensborough, the City listened!

Resident Ms. Lee spoke up at the Listening Session last night about unkept areas near and around her property. The overgrown areas were producing critters that were effecting the neighbors and these areas were prime places intruders could hide only to spring forth on an unsuspecting resident coming home from work or a shopping trip. Thanks to her courage and heart to see Queensborough restored, the City of Shreveport were out bright and early this morning to clear out some of the overgrown nuisance that was plaguing our residents place they call home. You spoke up Queensborough, and someone listened. Thank you all!

It means so much to not only be heard but to be able to SEE that you were heard and action thereafter says a lot.

June 25, 2021

We look forward to more efforts to show the residents of Queensborough good faith that the City of Shreveport is ready, capable, willing, and able to assist with our concerns as long as we come and come together to make them known.

There's been a series of meetings in the city in efforts to take in citizens input on how federal funds coming to Shreveport can best be used. It's time to state your concerns, come with fresh ideas for funding programs that will help our community. Consider the development of our neighborhood and children and bring plans we can create to improve our neighborhood, restore our citizens and support our city.
